Your first visit · Step 1 of 6

Before your appointment

A little preparation. Nothing to worry about.

Book through our Jane online booking page, where you can choose your appointment and see available dates. New patients should choose an initial chiropractic assessment. Complete any intake forms Jane sends you before your visit. For general questions, email hello@purnellhealth.co.uk; please do not send detailed medical information by ordinary email.

Wear comfortable clothing you can move in. Bringing shorts or a loose top may help, depending on the area being assessed. You can discuss privacy, examination clothing or any adjustment you need before attending.

Bring a current medication list and any relevant scan reports, referral letters or medical information you already have. You do not need to arrange a scan just to attend. Let us know about access, language or communication requirements before travelling.

A few common questions

It is always okay to ask.

What should I wear?

Choose comfortable clothing that lets you move easily. Shorts or a loose top may help for some examinations. Please discuss any privacy, cultural or clothing preferences with us.

Will treatment hurt?

People respond differently. Some examination or treatment techniques can feel uncomfortable, and temporary soreness can occur. We discuss relevant risks first, adapt the approach and ask you to tell us if anything feels wrong. Treatment should never continue simply because you feel unable to say no.

Will I receive treatment at my first appointment?

Possibly, if there is time and it is appropriate, safe and agreed after assessment. It is not guaranteed; discussion, further investigation or referral may be the more appropriate next step.

Do I need a GP referral?

A GP referral is not usually needed to see a chiropractor privately. If using an insurer, check its referral and authorisation requirements first. If your symptoms need medical assessment, do not wait for a chiropractic appointment.

How many appointments might I need?

There is no universal number. Your presentation, goals and response to care guide any recommendation. We review progress and discuss changes, self-management or referral where appropriate.

What if chiropractic treatment is not suitable?

We will explain why, discuss alternatives and recommend appropriate onward care. An assessment does not oblige you to have treatment.

Can I ask questions or decline treatment?

Yes. You can ask for more information, take time to decide, decline a particular technique or stop an examination or treatment. Your choices will be respected.

Where is the clinic, and what about access?
